Little did I know the impact a corporate professional development program would have on me and set me off in a trajectory that has landed me where I am now. In 2009 I was working at DST Global Solutions – I’d been there for over 4 years already, having started as a Graduate Programmer. At this stage when the Activ8 program was rolled out, I was now a Consultant based back in Melbourne, having worked in Sydney & London on secondments.
A group of trainers appointed by our UK head office came out to Australia, running the program called Activ8 it a 2 day training to be attended by every DST employee. The goal was employee engagement, increased motivation, productivity and profits. Knowing what I know now there was a huge amount of Neural Linguist Programing (NLP) in the training in short NLP is a recipe for success, change and motivation. I’ll speak to this in another post.
Activ8 contained the unveiling the of company wide Vision, Values & Goals as well as a ton of motivation, innovation, problem solving and self-reflection of what was important to us. As well as goal setting, positive reframing and language patterns.
The trainers were engaging and high energy. I was enthralled by the contents and when asked I put my hand up to become a trainer for this program immediately (despite my huge fears around public speaking at the time). For me the spark in me was lit, I loved Activ8 and this had planted the inspiration for me to become a Professional Development trainer. I did the Trainers Training and became part of the program within the organisation. From then on I made various career moves to gain the competencies I needed, training, leadership and then external studies in Coaching, NLP and other modalities. I love now running Leadership & Communication training for organisations as often I see the same light go off in participants as they engage with the leaning that was sparked in me now 10 years ago.
